Educator Training
Schools are in a unique position to identify violent behavior among students early and to implement prevention strategies that affect the entire community. C WORX teamed up with subject matter experts to create training programs to support early detection and prevention of violence in the educational environment. Our Communication and De-escalation Training for High School Peer Counselors was the recipient of the Colorado Chiefs’ of Police Pioneer Award.

School Resource Officer Training (3 days)
In collaboration with the State of Colorado Division of Criminal Justice, C-WORX developed a Crisis Intervention Teams (CIT) class for School Resource Officers. The program addresses the unique situations officers encounter when working with the adolescent population. We have trained young adult role players to assist these officers in the development of their verbal de-escalation skills. The initial Children in Crisis (CIC) training was an immediate success and spawned additional classes addressing the needs of young adults. Assessing and Responding to People with Mental Illness : A Class for Loved Ones Living with People with Mental Illness. (16 hours)
In response to numerous requests from members of the National Association for Mental Illness (NAMI) C WORX tailored a communication class for loved ones living with people with mental illness.This class provides communication skills and strategies to verbally de-escalate individuals living with mood, thought or personality disorders. Mental Health First Aid for Older Adults and Those Dealing with Later-Life Issues (16 hours)
No specific chronological age defines someone as an “older adult.” For the purposes of this training however, age 60 will be the marker as this is the age when adults are eligible for Older American Act programs and services through the U.S. Area Agencies on Aging. This course is for for Older Adults and Those Dealing with Later-Life issues and can be used with a wide array of training audiences. This training will increase the understanding of the mental health issues affecting the older adult population and their unique experiences and needs. This class is taught by MHFA Certified C WORX instructors with role-play added to enhance the learning experience. Upon completion of the course students receive a MHFA Certificate valid for 3 years. Youth Mental Health First Aid for Adults Assisting Young People (8 hours)
This course is designed to teach adults who regularly interact with young people how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing cognitive, severe emotional or substance related problems. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for aiding young people both in crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), and eating disorders. This class is taught by MHFA Certified C WORX instructors with role-play added to enhance the learning experience. Upon completion of the course students receive a MHFA Certificate valid for 3 years. Mental Health First Aid for Higher Education is designed with colleges’ and universities’ unique culture and resources in mind. Training students, faculty and others in higher education settings how to recognize the symptoms of emerging mental illnesses or to assist young adults in a mental health crisis can help lessen the severity and impact of mental illnesses. This class is taught by MHFA Certified C WORX instructors with role-play added to enhance the learning experience. Upon completion of the course students receive a MHFA Certificate valid for 3 years. Mental Health First Aid for Rural Audiences (16 hours)
Twenty percent of our nation’s population lives in a rural area. While spread throughout our country, rural populations are an important underserved population that lives with significant health and behavioral health disparities. Rural communities have a chronic shortage of behavioral health providers and limited access to services. MHFA is a way to build rural community level capacity to identify mental health and substance abuse issues early and for rural residents to increase their confidence to intervene and refer people to the resources that do exist. This class is taught by MHFA Certified C WORX instructors with role-play added to enhance the learning experience. Upon completion of the course students receive a MHFA Certificate valid for 3 years.
